Step-by-Step to Stable Employment

Jesus was attending McDowell Education Center in Columbus preparing for his upcoming HiSET test when he was referred to his WIOA youth case manager Valorie Fisher.  As a result of some of Jesus’s barriers to success, his adult ed instructor felt he might need additional support to finish his HSED and successfully transition into stable employment. The first step Jesus and his case manager made was to enroll him into the Quest grant and cover his testing fees; he had been unemployed long term and lacked the funds he needed for his two remaining tests.  Jesus went on to pass those tests and earn his HSED, making him the first member of his family to graduate from High School.  As a new graduate, Jesus and his case manager are working together to eliminate some of his barriers to employment while also collaborating on a plan for him after graduation. Together they have registered for coursework at Ivy Tech, where he will study Computer Engineering and they continue to search for employment opportunities that will provide him stable employment.
